If you have NEVER been to Africa, when someone mentions "Africa" or you hear "Africa", what is the FIRST thing that comes into your mind?

People associate different regions/continent based on media, informational material, myths, stereotypes and such. The main idea of this discussion is to find out what people who never had "first hand experience" think about the continent. Thanks for your contribution.

Mar 22 2013: Southern Africa, political and civil strife. Central Africa, blight and severe changing climate conditions effecting the peoples. Northern Africa, forced religious conversion.

It's off the top of my head Mary without going to any news sites and is wrong by a thousand leagues but i wanted to touch on the images that sprang to mind rather than what is the reality of the now. Is this what you want or looking for in a response about the parent continent?

Yes you got it right. I meant the first thoughts that comes into your mind without researching. Hehehe...I share same view about Northern Africa, and the way I am deviating from particular religion to embracing humanity....lol....trust me, this view does not settle well with me....
