STAND UP AND BE COUNTED

The NGO sector internationally is passive and in need of the energy and shake up that Dan's talk has forwarded to us all. I work in Australia and have worked in the sector for over 20 years and seen the decreasingly passivity creep in. Gone are the days of real advocacy, the sector is so concerned about pleasing Government departments that we have lost our key strength to unite with our community and be a voice to those who are not being heard. Australia is just about to embar on a National Disability Insurance scheme, Government deparments are contracting rapidly as the NDIS takes shape. There is a lot of chage all around us, and yet we sit quietly in the wings waiting to see what will happen. NGO's are told to get business saavy, begin to market themselves as people will have individual funidng and increased choice. However, we are not taking a step back and thinking to shift our target to the wider community for support, instead we are looking at Governments and individuals, marketing strategies that will achive what exactly? Increased choice for people who reuqire funidng and support is absolutely positive, but we are once again in the midst of change not thinking innovatively enough. Dan stretches our thinking to the endless possibility of making a real difference and I absolutely applaud him and say to all the NGO's across the world, STAND UP AND BE COUNTED .

  • Mar 17 2013: tracey, I think the "passivity" is despair. Let us all stand up and be counted and not wait for others to do that. The power to change the reality of humanity from negative to positve lies within the power of all of us, e.g., express truth, speak and act in purely posiitive ways. Let's take back the world from the power and control freaks currently ripping off the people who create the valuable goods and services and make sure people are paid in accordance with the value of the services and goods they create.

    Mar 18 2013: G'day Tracey

The government have been quite clever about how they have implemented change that will make us more submissive, take the union for instance, they slowly took away any power that the union had over government & corporations & it's the same in all sectors not just the union.

I worked in the disability field for a while & I could see system at work in the worst sense.

    Love
