    Mar 14 2013: Harm - a great question.

I know that the most horrible thing that has happened to me turned out to be the best thing to happen to me - so in that context, isn't harm really a matter of perspective? --- at least where "self" is concerned.

At the fulcrum of the life-changing event, I learned that I had been harming myself without even knowing it. Because I was harming myself (because of my worldview), I was causing harm to others without even knowing it(again because of my worldview).

There are many kinds of harm.

Mar 15 2013: I know where you are coming from. with that perspective
    • Mar 15 2013: Yes,I totally agree with TED Lover:All harms come from ourselves.

Mar 14 2013: Ignorance causes harm. If you knew better, you would not harm self or others.

Harm is that which diminishes self or others.
  • Mar 14 2013: Harm is like pornography - You know it when you see it.
  • Mar 14 2013: Harm is often just a matter of perspective.

This Chinese folk-story illustrates the point:

Mar 14 2013: At the most general level, feeling yourself most important, unfailing, at the center of existence and seeing world colored by that feeling is the harm. Ego causes it.

Mar 13 2013: To me harm means anything that hurts myself or others. Physical harm can include things such as detaining another,, etc. mental harm takes on a very broad range from prejudices, harsh words, gossip, greed, etc

Some may harm intentionally but for the most part I believe we are just careless with our words, not thinking of the Impact it will have on others.

Is this what you are looking for? Your question is very brief and I'm not really sure what you want ...

Mar 15 2013: my briefeness is really my way of allowing people to respond in any way they choose, not to get back what i want to hear b/c that would be limiting your freedoom speech. plus I like to hear different reasons why.
