Droid Car

Car operated by android, features will be as follows
- user carries and walks in with Android phone into a car and he places the phone in the car dock which will be located at traditional navigation place
- the moment he places it, car will load all the dashboard content which already configured by user with his chose in android app
(car dashboard will be a just standalone monitor like our PC monitor)
- re configurable dash board
- headlights operated by system
- tail lights are operated based on vamps navigation system. If we are driving and need to take left or right google maps will on the tail light just before 200 feet
- machine or engine details, performance will be displayed on dash
- an intelligent system lessons to driver voice and gives options.

Let us say, while driving driver asks and searches with voice search for Starbucks. It should responded with voice and on conformation droid should generate and map on the Go. 

There are number of apps available in mobile App stores which can read the data from ODB2 connector and its limited to the car speed, engine performance information.

In the current generation cars, the touch interface introduced by cars companies are not on a common platform and limited to media, navigation.

If there will be a common platform where all cars will follow a OS to build then there will be more changes of implementing the above.

More over we can use re-configure our dashboard presentations, navigation system in the dashboard, clock, media, etc...

    when a small toy robo runs on smart phone why don't a car runs on it and utilizes the robust OS features, smart
    apps and unlimited functionalities to function in a car.

    imagine if something implements like this, how the car world will turn in to.

    Mar 13 2013: I think your thinking is headed in the right direction.

    Be sure that app lets the driver choose what should and should not be automated.

    I hope your realize that the robot car (no driver necessary) will be available soon. Some people are speculating that robot cars will be so safe that human drivers might be outlawed. It is also possible that robot cars will be so popular that cars equipped for human drivers will be extremely expensive.

      Mar 13 2013: yes, Agreed. but the robot cars talk about driving a car and I am suggesting, how it should be as along with automated driving we do lot of stuff and even car has lot of stuff which can be automated or managed with a single device.

    Mar 12 2013: Do we really need that much amount of automation?? I am just fine driving my car as is.. can't trust a machine turning on and off tail lights.. esp when changing lanes or taking an exit/turn.. at least this is my thought for now.. ;)

      Mar 12 2013: I love to drive, but the concept above was all about getting rid of too many toys in a car. like, Navigation system, hard controls for wipers, indicator lights, head lights, dashboard. So, this all can be controlled if we connect all those controls to an intelligent and touch screen system which can take a soft control.

      Its a kind of features that are available in TESLA, but getting it in very very cheaper prices.

        Mar 12 2013: Yo.. there are Light sensitive lights and water sensitive wipers are out there in the market for almost 7-8 years... with out any interface required.. you still need them automate.. :)

        things which you have mentioned needs deep integration with car's core embedded system.. it is easy to create a generic systems which can work for most or the cars..

        But, it is possible... car companies are trying to come up with a build that can integrate with your tablet or phone.. along wth the existing touch screens.. I remember similar project has been done using iPhone around 3 years back, not only controlling your car accessories but it controls car steering.. you can relax in the backseat and drive using ur iphone....

        But it is a good idea to put everything together in one interface..

          Mar 12 2013: ya, agreed. but when comes to automated wipers in industry comes with more cost than any other solutions. Where as I am suggesting, as in the current system we are doing with a control which we can automate on a common platform.
