Is technology creating a superficial reality?

As the human population is growing, it is becoming more and more technologically advanced. Yet, our growing technology is a cause for concern because we are slowly becoming more and more detached from reality. Ironically, the very technology that is supposed to connect us to each other is pushing us further and further away from each other. Take Facebook, for example. It is true that Facebook connects people from across the world. It brings us closer to acquaintances, friends, and family. But, most people aren’t who they really are on Facebook. For some, the sole goal is to get the most “likes” on a status or picture. So then, are we truly more connected to each other, even if that connection comes at the cost of changing ourselves? Is the overabundance of technology making us lose the sight of reality as we create cyber-personas to satisfy our need of wanting to change ourselves? Simple, is technology creating a superficial reality?
