Do you guys believe that biker gangs should be illegal?

I am writing a persuasive essay and I was wondering what the public thought about that topic.

    Mar 17 2013: no and the very though of making that illegal is repulsive why would you stop people from doing what they love unless it directly affects you

    Mar 3 2013: If there are laws against the behaviours which cause concern, then, if there is a will to enforce those laws, effective sanctions already exist. If there is no will to enforce existing laws, creating new laws is unlikely to make a difference.

    Feb 23 2013: Does you mean that any bikers riding around in groups of more than a certain number, would be illegal?

    How do you know what their motives are?

    Could you extend that to any other group doing any other activity, like knitting groups? You never know what they might do with those sharp needles.

    Feb 23 2013: The area I live in has many biker gangs/groups, and all the members are over 50 (usually with grey hair & expensive bikes).
    They follow regular driving rules of the road & are fun to be around. They hold rallies etc. & have a great time. many other groups of lesser ages also sport about. Very few are of the "gang" culture. The lawlessness of a few should NOT affect the goodness of many.

      Still, the gangs need to be punished for shooting each other in the first place.

    Feb 23 2013: As the others have commented on the obvious, i'll say " if a group of between 6 and 250 persons meet for a common reason, in one place at the same time, on a regular basis would that define a gang/club?"

    I think they should be legal, if for no other reason than the law enforcement resources used to prevent their meeting would be a huge waste.

    I cannot tell where you are from from your profile, but in the United States I think "biker gang" is another word for motorcycle club- people who get together for bike rides as a big group of people.

    They are not a gang in the sense of being engaged in criminal activities. They follow the same driving rules as everyone else on the road. On the freeway, they don't even slow down the traffic, because they move at the same speed as cars.

    There are also clubs of people who ride ordinary bicycles and clubs of people who walk together. There are places it is not legal to RIDE a motorcycle or, for that matter, to walk a dog. National Park Trails are an example.

    Feb 22 2013: The way your question is worded it appears that biker gangs are not legal now. You might change the word "legal" to "illegal"?
    Anyway, I don't think anything should be prohibited by law unless it is contrary to the public good. It is difficult to claim to be a free country while having laws which prohibit certain groups, types, or organizations. To make it a crime to form and operate a social organization based upon a common affinity for motorcycles is totalitarian and un-American. Absolutely YES! Biker gangs should remain legal.
