How are you going to move your career forward this year?
I am an Executive Recruiter and Author. I have placed many people in rewarding positions. It is a difficult job market for many and my goal is to move people beyond complaining or feeling victimized to helping develop specific plans for advancement and securing ideal employment. I like to hear from job seekers as to what they are doing to move their process forward. I am offering my perspective and feedback within this forum.

Never give up on a good thing, never give room for laziness or procrastination.

My profession is going to be greatly impacted by changes in federal funding and I am busting my tush trying to apply those predictive skills to economics. As quickly as I can. Where my profession moves will be in reaction to the economic impact and that is where I need to be ready to move.
I took the opportunity to hook up with a program that afforded me some exposure to industry and research at Stanford as well as the federal reserve both in Houston and Washington. I am dancing as fast as I can...

What a noble profession who are in. I have so much respect for teachers at any and all levels. Thank you for your dedication! As for earning your Masters, I agree that you would be able to climb the ladder a little more easily. Then again, it all depends what level of college or university teaching you aspire to.
Possibly you could enroll in a program that allows you to go to school in the evening and teach during the day (if finances are an issue). Additionally, I would suggest volunteering your time/perspective/assistance at the level you seek. You could be a guest lecturer in a college’s Early Childhood Education or Early Learning and Teacher Education program. This would give you experience and might turn into a job offer as well.

I am an educator both by training, and innate.....If someone needs to learn something I know about, then I'm the person to teach them.
I would love to one day have a job where I train individuals....preferably large groups of adults.....
I like the idea of working at the university level.
Any ideas??

And I have tutored students in pretty much all subjects up to tenth grade.
Yes I have supervised student teachers.....I have always loved the idea to work for the district....until I realized that those are not real jobs where I live.....it's just a bunch of people who know people who know people......politics.....
But, I think something in a university....perhaps working with future educators would be something I would enjoy.
I think that first I would have to finish my masters degree.

That sort of position does not have the degree requirements of a faculty position at a university. These people are experienced educators, while the faculty teaching the actual courses in the credential program typically will have PhDs.
That is my observation anyway.

I'll have to look and see if the university I am interested in has such positions.
What I have seen with the student teachers I have supervised, is that the coach assigned to them is usually a professor on the university's faculty.
But, perhaps like J.B. suggests, there might be other options.
Thanks!!

It is possible that different states have different requirements?
Or perhaps different universities have different policies?
Fritzie, what about you? Are you planning on moving your career forward?
I almost gave in to the tempting offer of teaching online.....but I just can't see myself teaching that way.
I know technology has helped alot of teachers increase their income.
An administrator I know also works as a professor for an online university.
He is rolling in mula....
And, also there are sites for teachers to sell their curriculum and classroom ideas.....it's called Teachers Pay Teachers, have you heard of the site?
Fritzie Reisner 100+
I have taught in the classroom and online. One can offer students more face to face, but online one can reach students who don't live a stone's throw from where you are.
I think I am much older than you are, Mary. I am wrapping up my career rather than looking to move it forward.

Teaching is in me......I am always teaching.
I guess my ideal, after I finish up with other priorities, is to help future educators, whether I get paid for it or not.
My teaching has always been a work of heart. There is no real money in it.
Many times I will tutor for free, just to be able to help out a child that is struggling.
It is very gratifying to be able to help another person learn something new.

I have done the educator training thing at the school and district level, but I find I prefer working directly with students, whether young or adult.
I think most teachers are always teaching.

Those of us that have teaching in our veins.
I've worked with so many teachers that did it as a job.....not as a career.
That was one of the hardest things to come to grip with as an educator, being surrounded by those that really did not care about the children......those that were there for a paycheck.
Have you ever attended any teacher conferences.....conventions?
They have an awful lot of them here in Florida, but I have yet to make it to one.
Although I have participated in local conferences sponsored by the Children's Trust.

As you are the second person who has mentioned this about the state of teaching in Florida, I really wonder what is going on. I don't have a lot of elementary experience, but the two elementaries I worked with were full of commited, diligent people.
