What is really behind the Pope's resignations?

It had been a very long time since I witnessed a human being declare his/hers own weakness and the Pope's decision to retire has moved me. I'm not a catholic, I'm not a believer in God but this decision (made public with plenty of dignity) is important.

  • Feb 12 2013: Since most popes served the catholic church till death, there must be something going on!
That was my first thaught when i heard the news.
Pope Ratzinger had this big argument with the staff members/cardinals of the Vatican.
He and the staff eventually couldnt agree on this argument, thats why he personally made a conscious desicion to leave. So the argument will involve personal views pope Ratzinger couldn't agree on.

The most important issues regarding the vatican lately are: abuse and gay marriage
Gay marriage in france is now tolerated from what i heard.
Perhaps the conservative Ratzinger didn't want to change the catholic church due to this.
If it concerns an important decision it will be announced soon.
That will be the issue Ratzinger couldn't agree on.
