Government subsidies hurt the environment
Humans are an extremely creative and adaptive species, especially when when a product or resource is in short supply. For this reason, I find it baffling that some governments subsidize resources such as water and gasoline. Lowering the prices of these things creates an artificial sense of security in the supply, stiffing innovation, and even promoting waste. By allowing these resources to sell at their natural price governments could reduce their budgets, promote conservation, and foster innovation.
