Your Idea: A Weapon that creates Peace

Let's face it; War is a business.

How, then, do we create a product of war, that doesn't hurt, maim, or kill, but rather does the opposite and heals, prevents, and stops conflict that a corporate company can patent and therefore make money from, keeping not only innocent people from being harmed, but also feeds the corporate companies' bottom line of keeping investors happy?!?

The idea is simple in effect, and promotes peace whilst still increasing worth.

I just have little idea on what the war product could be, so I'm crowd-sourcing from you, fellow TEDsters, to help build the perfect weapon: A weapon of peace.

Should it be just one weapon of peace, or, just as there are many weapons of war, perhaps there should be multiple weapons of peace that can each be patented by the companies listed here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_modern_armament_manufacturers and allow such companies to make money from peace?

as always, I'm awaiting your thoughts.....

Dec 11 2012: What you want can't be done... The closest thing you can have that would be to have a worldwide education system that would limit misunderstandings...
But if you get the most distructull power in the world and give it to everyone, that would limit the will each entity would would have to destroy their opponent since they would do the same back to them...

Dec 12 2012: what i think you're saying is that peace is impossible. please allow me to agree to disagree on this subject.

the only thing that is impossible is the existence of nothing, everything else can be done in my opinion.

a world-wide communication system that limits misunderstandings is an idea that i've had before where upon technology steps between potential conflicts and represents the information being conveyed between individuals to the point of actually preventing conflict by omitting certain information or changing the wording of information, automatically. basically, it's like every single individual has their own language, and a technological translator does the bouncing of information between people.

however, this is a short-term patch to a long-term problem.

a world-wide education system could never be agreed upon by all the governments of the world - however, conflict resolution processes can be taught, and should be taught by all educational institutions around the world to the generations that will be our future leaders.

better yet, if there were an online course that appealed to the next generation of leaders that deals with conflict resolution, then effectively disputes can be stopped more often than not - for instance, if 1 out of 10 people knew conflict resolution tactics to reach an amicable goal for all parties involved, this would not only prevent potential conflicts, but also stop actual conflicts and would result in less disputes.

if it were 1 out of 10 people who knew the tactics, it would prevent or stop at the very least, 3 out of 10 conflicts.

unfortunately, i do not know of a conflict resolution online course, if anyone can refer me to one, please post a link here!

as for everyone having 'a big stick' to fight with, i would consider this comparable to a crowd of people who each have a big stick, and a different crowd of people who have no sticks at all. i would be suggesting that the 'stick' people would be more likely to get hurt.

Dec 12 2012: I don't think peace is impossible. I just don't think a way or a means to force peace is possible.

Dec 12 2012: i respectfully disagree that a way or a means to force peace is not possible. it's interesting the way you worded it, as if to say that the 'weapon of peace' is some kind of literal weapon. keep in mind that this is changing the definition of the word 'weapon.'

i believe we have to do something to create peace, or otherwise wars will simply just keep continuing. i believe it would begin with conflict resolution in the class-room. bullying these days isn't acceptable, but happens. changing the focus of bullying to conflict resolution is a key step in changing our future leaders' behaviour.
