Your Idea: A Weapon that creates Peace
Let's face it; War is a business.
How, then, do we create a product of war, that doesn't hurt, maim, or kill, but rather does the opposite and heals, prevents, and stops conflict that a corporate company can patent and therefore make money from, keeping not only innocent people from being harmed, but also feeds the corporate companies' bottom line of keeping investors happy?!?
The idea is simple in effect, and promotes peace whilst still increasing worth.
I just have little idea on what the war product could be, so I'm crowd-sourcing from you, fellow TEDsters, to help build the perfect weapon: A weapon of peace.
Should it be just one weapon of peace, or, just as there are many weapons of war, perhaps there should be multiple weapons of peace that can each be patented by the companies listed here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_modern_armament_manufacturers and allow such companies to make money from peace?
as always, I'm awaiting your thoughts.....

As this is an often occurring situation between neighbours, which will always continue to happen, it will have the same existence a world level. There will always be bullies.
Even education is not going to help because it will only make the bullies into smarter bullies.
If we could only show/proof that if we love others as we love ourselves, that this would make EVERYONE happier, including ourself.
Until that happens it is indeed good to have a military organization, not to start a war but to prevent one. In the meantime we could use our military power and expertise to help those in need in our country and other countries as well.
It is one way to show 'we're getting there'.

i also disagree that wars will always happen. if it is written in a bible that wars will always happen, and enough people will always believe it, then i'm wrong.
however, i would like to suggest that wars will change in nature, of a blood-thirsty type of war to an information kind of war, until a time that the current age that we will live in will be without war altogether.
is there a way to stop war? give the people something else to do aside from killing and hurting, and perhaps instead a form of co-operation (or realistically, just something else to do) and the kind of war that is faced has changed it's face itself.

I said that because there are some very smart people in jail, or trying to get control of your computer.
To make people aware of the consequences of their actions, OK, but it is not our smarts that make us better people.
Why I think wars will always be there, is because they are a product of evil intentions and control. Also, on a personal level, we will always have heaven, but also hell within us.
There will be wars as long as there are streets in this world where, at night, a woman could not safely walk.
That being said, the reason for our 'situation' is that we have freewill. It is how we use that freedom of choice, every minute of the day, that makes us who we are (and we'll never be perfect).
In addition to that, I believe we are not in this world for the sake of anything in this world. I believe we are here to determine our eternity.
The more people would accept that as our 'situation', the better this world would indeed become. Who gives a hoot if someone else has more money than we do... there have been millionaires that were so miserable they committed suicide.
I base my total belief on this overview of what Swedenborg wrote about our spiritual reality

You're also right about people trying to access my computer (even if you meant in a generally speaking sense) - I have lost access to my main email account for over a month due to hackers, and (although refunded) had money stolen from my bank account. Three anti-virus programs bought later, and I seem (I hope) to have removed the last trojan-horse virus from my computer.
Anyway, back to education, and away from the information war... (is there a difference)
Education could be considered propoganda itself, depending on how incomplete the individual topics that are studied, and also how the facts are presented. However, teaching and education is evolving. As more and more of the y generation loses focus over time, they are able to access 'facts' much more efficiently, and the result is more out-of-the-box thinking with black-boxes, and because of the multitude of information gathered, cross-discipline studies are becoming not only more popular, but in some cases, necessary in the work-force.
The newer generations are growing up learning to take supposed facts with a grain of salt, and truth is the ultimate winner, especially in today's context of rapidly spreading networks of networks of information.
As for people in jail, I've said this before, "I dream of the day that a jail outshines a university."
I would tend to think that suicidal millionaires are unhappy because of regret, not solely because of financial reasons. Their publicity, however, would be more wide-spread due to their financial status.
As for what I've referred to as "privacy becoming something of the past" - if everything is recorded somewhere (most conspiracy theorists would agree that this is true already) then everyone could be accountable for their actions. This doesn't necessarily mean safe dark alleys, but it's beginning to be that way.
Thank-you for sharing the link on spirituality. I imagine many people will find it useful.

Our airplanes, cars and guns have become much better these last decades, but have we as human beings? There is a constant battle going on, everywhere in this world, between people that want to attack and that have to protect. As you said, that is on your computer, in the down-town, money, sex.
Every single item in this world can be used with good intentions or with bad intentions. It is not our (level of) education that determines why we use the item. It is determined by what we love and our priorities or desires and lusts..
I think the best possible 'weapon' that would create peace and thus a better world is this. You may know that when people see a security camera they behave differently then when they think no-one is looking.
If people would get the notion that there is such a thing as a 'higher power'. That someone who cares is constantly looking over our shoulder, someone is making notes in our book of life.
When, after 30 days we get used to thinking and thus behaving that way, we'd be the best human beings ever.
Maybe you know, but Alcoholic Anonymous has found that acknowledging a higher power really helps a person in fighting the bottle. It is one of its steps.
This link is about what Swedenborg found out about what "love" is, where it's from and what makes it good or bad, and also how we can change it.

The name Swedenborg could be Googled to see how many famous people were influenced by him.
Have a great day.

what happens in classicly-adopted education mechanisms is that some students find it harder to find their footing at the beginning due to a multitude of reasons, where as the adjustment period is set in a time-frame for the average student, so some students fall behind at the beginning of when the pace of the class has stepped up, and falls completely behind and the students feel as though they have been betrayed by the forces at work.
what is good about kahn academy is that students learn at their own pace. it is often found that most students who struggle at the beginning of studying kahn academy eventually fire-up and perform better in terms of measurable performance on average to those who are classically educated.
learning at your own pace and learning what you actually want to learn are the two key principles in the new wave of education.

When those two aspects are present, we remember facts many times easier, and longer.
I found this Ted talk via Google!!!!! How crazy is that?????? There is no option on TED to search per subject!!!!
Seems to me this should be one of your favourites.
