Debate: Artificial religions

I propose an experiment that will allow people, no matter their religion, to participate in this conversation without prejudice against an individual or group of people.

The way that I believe this might be accomplished is as follows:

. No mention of actual existing religions
. Religions can instead be referred to as any particular colour on the rainbow
. No mention of actual real religious beliefs
. A particular religious belief can instead be referred to as a type of plant, tree or even any flora or fauna
. A particular colour's flora/fauna can be described as one of the many ways that flora/fauna can be changed when adding or subtracting a leaf, flower, seed, fruit or any part of the flora/fauna of the colour.

Colour = religion
Flora/fauna = belief
How the flora/fauna grows = description of belief

To get started, and participate, see the example at the very bottom of this page as the last comment.

  • Nov 21 2012: I see what your point is (at least, i think i do?).

But at the end of the day, the fact that these differences exist will lead to the same outcome. Discrimination will still exist based on colour, flora/fauna, etc.

The purples will still lead a "holy crusade" in the name of sunflower, and try to impose their belief system over the oranges, etc etc.

Nov 21 2012: Any religion is related to life, human life. I have no idea how your colors and flowers and grass relate to human life and relations or could help anything.

Any color is fine with me although I might not wear pink or purple. It does seem that in order to live a healthy life, we need a sun. That's why, I think, flowers will (automatically?) turn towards the sun.

There are flowers and then there is ivy..

Nov 21 2012: A rose (or turd) by any other name is still a rose (or turd).
  • Nov 21 2012: Hope this is okay.

    Any "true or real" rainbow
would leaf the other colors alone.
    As new sprouts show
    in their fauna that flow,
    all colors are needed
    or there is no rainbow.

All fauna grows out of shit,
towards the light, a mighty reach,
    even though the sunny light,
the source of IT, is out of reach.

So a bridge must be built,
a lattice for vines on which to grow.
And climbing the lattice, tho at times we wilt.
We will climb higher still, until,
We think we are each the vine.
But, it is only in embracing all our colors
To truly feel and be Devine
And we will find as we go,
That a bridge is like a rainbow.
    Built with what we know,
But crossed by all in faith,
The leap is flying, it is not dying,
For that is the mind that creates the abyss,
and only the heart can cross this.

Nov 21 2012: That's really beautiful and deep Random, is it your own composition? Do you mean flora where you've written fauna?

Much thanks for that very creative response!

Nov 21 2012: Good try Griffin, glad to see you are still plugging away at introducing topics in a different light/color.

I think all religions, every hue of the rainbow has meaning for the people who adopt that particular religion. We all have very different tendencies therefore I believe we need a huge range of religions, rituals, etc to choose from.

It's only when people get fanatical that their religion/color is the ONLY way that wars and other problems start. If we could just accept each others right to choose, that all beliefs have benefits for their followers and that we should live in harmony by enjoying the differences that our world will be a brighter place!

Nov 21 2012: The idea here was to attempt to describe religious belief clashes as non-sensical, and detrimental to the well-being of diversity and therefore humanity as a whole. Failed attempt, yes, but I will try again from a different angle when I muster the courage.

Nov 21 2012: The issue (in regards to religion, especially) is that you wont be able to get rid of the ridicule, because its not the title of 'Christian', 'Muslim' etc etc, that generates the issue (in the majority of cases), its the severe lack of logic, reasoning (and often) intellectual dishonesty that follows in the explanations of why they believe and why you should to, and I for one welcome that ridicule and scrutiny to the same extent as when such dishonesty and insanity is displayed in other topics and formats.
(I.E/ Lets not give selected issues priviledges over others just because......bananas).

Its great that you're trying to do what you do, but you also need to include the variable as to *why* the issue between group 1 and 2 exists in the first place. Its not always as simplistic as titles and variations on creation sequences etc etc,
In these cases its largely because the line between 'personal belief' and 'laws everyone should follow' are blurry for some people etc etc.

Take care and I look forward to future attempts.
      Best of luck.

    Nov 21 2012: .
The logic of this loses me entirely.

You can substitute 'x' for 'y' all you want, but the end outcome is the same because
People will re-associate 'y' and 'x' inorder to understand what you're talking about .

(eg/ Blue believes daffodils can only survive in grass? what does' blue, daffodil and grass' that sentence represent exactly? etc etc)

Even if you form a dictionary of Euphemisms to get around the issue of no one knowing whats being said,
Such as Orange = Creationism, Mango = Homosexuality etc etc,
Everyone will then know exactly what religion is being talked about and what that person is arguing which leaves it open to ridicule, which is what you're trying to avoid, right?
Thats not removing predjudice, thats postponing it with paperwork.
I'm sorry, but its just nonsensical as far as I can see.

Nov 21 2012: I am confused as to your goal in terms of learning or exchange of ideas for the conversation, other than that religions should not be mentioned.

Nov 21 2012: Hi. I come from the blue colour. Blue believes daffodils can only survive if grass is surrounding itself, and will be happy when it rains. Unfortunately I don't get along with Violet because Violet believes the sun is needed for daffodils to grow.

Proof that Blue is the best and truest colour is that when a long time ago there was a lot of sun, the daffodils' petals dried up. Violet says this is because there wasn't enough water for the daffodil, and although Blue agrees daffodils need water, Blue believes grass is what keeps it's petals fresh.

Are there any Violets out there that think Blue is wrong? Why?

Nov 22 2012: You're making a point about how much of an intellectual mess it was before the scientific revolution, aren't you?
Obviously, Blue and Violet are philosophically challenged and cannot work things out rationnally.
