Debate: Do vaccines work or are they just another money making tool in a trillion dollar industry?

There is much debate regarding vaccination; imposing on an individual's rights, questionable proof as to their effectiveness, and possible links to neurological diseases like epilepsy and autism.

Vaccines act like a type of homoeopathic remedy in the sense that the 'bug' is introduced into the body so that the autoimmune system may produce anti-bodies to protect against the 'bug'.

But, as far as I can tell, the germ theory was debated in early 1900's and disproved in the 1950's, therefore voiding all need for fighting 'bugs'.

So do vaccines actually work? What proof is there? Or is it more for big profit for big pharma?

I am open to all sides of the story!

Closing Statement from Roberto Sciffo

Thank you all for your contributions. It was a great learning experience, and I am sorry to have missed the last day of commenting due to work. I would have enjoyed commenting on you all individually.

We have heard both sides of the story. Pro-vaccination are happy because it provides safety to us and our children, and the statistics that indicate the effectiveness of the vaccine, and Stephan's comments as to how they work.

We are faced however with a 'small' number of people who have had their children come about with symptoms of reduced development progress through to epilepsy and autism.

We have also wondered whether so many vaccines so soon in life a a great idea, considering the fact that the aluminum levels exceed the 'allowed' amount.

The fact that the heavy metals are toxic and are known to promote dis-ease in the body, is something that I can not stress the importance of enough.

The World Health Organization noted as early as 1974 that heavy metal and chemical toxicity were at the cause of most chronic degenerative diseases.

I appreciate Linda Taylor for her research into what I have stated, and her challenges, will add:
1) the mean size of the zeolites are 0.3 microns therefore able to pass into the blood stream.
2) if you are to perform a detox, it needs to be done in stages so as to make it safe. Little of this information is available online.
3) the study you quote done on zeolites, please send me the link to the study as I would like to investigate it and see what the company has to say. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
4) You quote ' Rock that absorb toxins especially ammonia, might be of value' - Zeolites as well as chlorella have been
use since the 80's I believe, in waste water treatment plants for that very reason, both performing as far as I can tell, equally well at about 50% removal. Both are being used as detox mediums as well.

Thank you all and I hope we have all learned a great deal from this debate. Wishing us all the best!

Nov 9 2012: There is a lot of research on what is the most likely flu to hit your country this year and the medical field prepares for that strain. If they guess right then that strain is somewhat controlled. If you get a shot for H1N1 that does not mean that you might not get swine, bird, asian, etc ...

As Linda stated below and Fritzie restated many of the major killers of the past have all disappeared. This magic happened after the vaccines were developed and shots were given.

That may not be proof to you but it is one heck of a coincidence.

As to your other question ... Jonas Sulk (polio) and Edward Jenner (small pox) were scientests and were in search of questions. Jenner wondered why milkmaids did not get a desease and Sulk was specifically after a cure for polio as a research scientist. The specific developer gets the noterity and the prize if there is one but the labs get the patient and yes they make money ... of course that is why they are still in business.

Profits are essential as they pay the bills but more important they are the basis for continuing research into tomarrows cures.

I guess the truth is in the pudding. So the question is if polio or small pox makes a resurgence would you not take the preventive shot defying big pharma their profit. The choice is yours.

Nov 9 2012: Yes, but the basis of all this is the 'bug' or 'germ' is responsible.

The germ theory came about in the 1500's and further confirmed in 1700 (smallpox) the end 1800's by Louis Pasteur. Pasteur's contemporary Bernard had a different view; he said germs flocked to the site as a signal disease existed. They were not the cause, but rather the weak environment allowed the germs to exist.

This was clearly demonstrated by Russian Siamese twins Masha and Dasha. They both shared the same blood supply but one may get a cold and the other would not. This meant that the germs were available to both, yet the weaker one would get sick.

Prevention is an excellent approach, as the introduction of vaccines are given to prevent an outbreak, but what impact does the vaccine do to our body? If they are using Thimerosal as a preservative which contains mercury, then you are introducing something dangerous into the body. Mercury is the 3rd most hazardous element for man as stated by the ATSDR in cooperation with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

One may argue that the amount is little. Once again, looking at the bigger picture would be to look at our lifestyles and environment. Pollution, aluminum in our food, our deodorant, and more mercury in amalgam and silver fillings.. all take their toll. These changes have been developed over a the last 500 years or so, yet our organism has developed over tens of thousands of years. How much can our body take in this new environment?

Vaccination may have been appropriate then, and their formula may have been different then too, but recently there are lots of questions being raised that I would like to find answers to.

I really have no problem with 'Big Pharma' making money.. seriously anything that supports wellness I support. But I do feel that with so much evidence being shown, that our idea of wellness and what creates it is somewhat askew.

Nov 10 2012: You need a microbiology lab course too.

"Thimerosal is a mercury-containing preservative used in some vaccines and other products since the 1930s. No harmful effects have been reported from thimerosal at doses used in vaccines, except for minor reactions like redness and swelling at the injection site. However, in July 1999, the Public Health Service (PHS) agencies, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and vaccine manufacturers agreed that thimerosal should be reduced or eliminated in vaccines as a precautionary measure. Today, with the exception of some influenza (flu) vaccines, NONE of the vaccines used in the U.S. to protect preschool children against 12 infectious diseases contain thimerosal as a preservative." Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

"Based on a thorough review of clinical and epidemiological studies, neither the mercury-based vaccine thimerosal nor the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine are associated with autism... Five large epidemiological studies in the United States, the United Kingdom, Denmark, and Sweden since 2001 consistently provided evidence that there is no association between thimerosal-containing vaccines and autism... " National Academies press release about the IOM report "Immunization Safety Review: Vaccines and Autism," May 18, 2004

        Note 2001:

        http://www.cdc.gov/vaccinesafety/Concerns/thimerosal/thimerosal_timeline.html

For more information (OK way more information):
        http://www.cdc.gov/vaccinesafety/concerns/thimerosal/

So there is no thimerosal administered any more outside of flu shots since 2001. So what does that do to your whole vaccination autism theory?

Nov 10 2012: Linda, not all is what it seems. Many things change as we understand more.

About Autism and bipolair but certainly with postnatal psychosis it seems that it is caused by infection in the brain. Research points to the Herpes virus. Microglial cells are set to fighting mode and don't serve anymore for maintenance which is their common task.

Some explanation from the man that does the research.

Nov 10 2012: See Frans, now you're talking. It's a leap to make linking neuroinflammatory processes to post pardom psychosis but that article is way cool. If they can find some biological markers that identify bipolar disorder and link it to inflammation at a point in the brain, therapy to address the issue is the next step. Herpes virus is a wicked infection especially in neuro tissues. Can cause blindness and all kinds of symptoms but I didn't see anything in the article linking an infective process to the inflammation. I will keep an eye on this research.

I like the authors leap to MS but we know the process there. Many of our disease we are left to work on deal with an overproduction of inflammatory and/or autoimmune responses. If we can figure those out, we could address many diseases that manifest from the process.

Nov 13 2012: Thank you for the reply Linda.
It was in the news and I thought it worthwhile.
There are a lot of article's on the subjects but most in Dutch.
I hope it gets all the attention possible because it could mean a lot to many.

About therapy, it was often observed that treatment for inflammation enlightened mental illnesses as a byproduct. This was one of the incentives to look that way.
