Guaranteed job placement through government-sponosred career training

Straight out of highschool, you pick a field of study that you want to get a job in.

Your could pick; becoming a firefighter, an engineer, teacher, movie actor, scientist, doctor, dentist, mechanic, or other such field.

Why has the government not created programs that train people in these specific fields, straight out of high school? Schools could have counsellors who work with all students and with companies that have their own training program facilities or ones they partner with to guarantee jobs in the world.

After high school, are students coached by professionals on what they should do next? Are they given options that guarantee them a good solid future, or give them good options with a high success rate as long as they get good grades and pass all of the training?

Not exactly. After high school it's every man and woman for themselves. With all of the technology that is available this should not be the case. I'm sure there are some programs out there, but not as many as there should be. Programs should supported by the government as well.

    Oct 14 2012: I would have reservations with the opinions of professionals directly assessing the juvenile "me". My own experience reflects your idea. My father saw the potential engineer in me and pressed me toward that end. I wanted to be a biologist, "Medicine Man", explorer. But he was paying for school so he won and we both lost. He assessed based on his own bias', greatest financial opportunity for his kid and not the spirit that was my driving desire.

    Translated to your idea: The database of society "now" needs could corrupt the opinions of the very professionals tasked to marry the juveniles with these needs: Spock's philosophy, "the needs of the many out weight the needs of the one", would win out.

    The military uses a very similar system which works very well in satisfying it's own needs regardless of the talent or spirit of the individual being assessed. The individual is committed to the assignment for 3 or 4 years after which they can seek other "open" assignments, stay in their current assignment, or leave the military. Other similar programs exist as well.

    I am not, however, against your idea but the assessments must be spirit, desire and talent focused to be successful. The juvenile must be in the drivers seat and allowed to be as ridiculous (to the ears of the wiser us) in the determination of his or her fate. Failure is an acceptable outcome and a reassessment under the same guidelines must be appreciated without shame, humiliation, or ridicule to be a great success.
    • Oct 17 2012: This solution has two options. It can honored by the government or by companies. Both do not have to be the answer.

      Nobody should be pressured to get into a field they are not interesed in or do not have passion for.

      The idea is to create a better system for graduates to become employed once their trainging is completed.

      As stated earlier, trying to find a company to become employed is not exactly an easy task.

      This is why the government or companies should work directly with all, not some students.

      There could be a system that grants the top students with the highest grades, or maybe just the select few get preference, honor and/or presidental students in some way.

      Not enough schools work directly with students. Colleges in washington state that have computer programs should work directly with Microsoft and other computer related firms.

      If this was the case then my friend with two bachellor degrees would be employed or at least have had a good opportunity to have a job interview to show an employer how he could be a good employee so he would get hired.

      Along with all said above, straight after students graduate and achieve their high school diploma they should be offered programs with companies and or colleges that can offer this very thing that I am talking about.

      But this is not the case. My frend is smart, he has two bachellor degrees and some how the system of education failed him, even with two degrees was not able to get a job in his field of study, especially when there were jobs available to him.

      There should be many more opportunites like this. This should be the case with all or a majority of the different job fields.

      If you graduate from the University of washington or U-dub as it is commonly referred, do they help you to a
      significant degree to make sure you get a job afterwards?

      The answer is no. Beause this is where my friend got his degree, and if this was the case he would be employed in his field of study right now.
