    Sep 28 2012: Hi Mohamed,
All good suggestions already posted on this site. I notice that Chen Xin's english has improved since he has been active on TED. My Chinese has improved as well!!!

Your english HAS improved Chen...I am kidding about my Chinese.....I used google translate! LOL:>)

I have a question about Chinese language.
When it is translated on google, it appears as different looks really lovely. When transfered to the TED comment section, it appears as little lines. I notice this happens with Korean language as well. Why?

Sep 28 2012: there is still a lot to learn
you know in the acient times korea and china had kept in tight touch their relationship is just like today's englang and Austrair. and also china is the strongest and have the most advanced culture...many countries including korea, and japan they all learn from china . so we wont feel strange that chinese and korean are alike .while since 1840 china has gone a way of droping . korea and japan become much better
up to now korea is still better then china she is much more advanced

Sep 28 2012: Thanks for the history Chen. My main question is... why do these languages (Chinese and Korean)appear as beautiful characters UNTIL they are transfered to the TED comment section, where it appears as little lines?

Japanese language remains the same beautiful characters when transfered.

Perhaps it is a technical question for TED? I'm curious:>)

Sep 28 2012: You can start with weekend language classes or evening classes.
You can learn a lot by watching English films with subtitles so that you can hear them and read the texts. I also recommend BBC news on TV, Al-Jazeera English and CNN International; their enunciation will be helpful.
Try to listen to English songs and then find their lyrics online.
And more importantly, if you are religious, texts of your religion written in English would be helpful.

Sep 28 2012: I have learnt English through the ways which are described by Feyisayo but one thing more which I have observed is you should try to translate different situations in your mind for example if you are purchasing something from the market then try to make sentences in your mind like you are purchasing things from an English speaker and to improve speaking more find someone who can give one an hour if its not possible then purchase a teddy bear and speak English with it whether right or wrong.

It might look ridiculous but it is very helpful to improve speaking.

Sep 28 2012: You can carry conversations with people on here or observe what people here do :)

Google and Wikipedia are your best friends if you ever need to look up words.

Sep 27 2012: Try to find a course, post as often as you can and check each word for correct spelling in a search engine to get practice or in a translation site for finding synonyms, it's not easy but effective. Effort is the most important, try to answer this and previous post for example in checked words, because wanna and realy aren't words.
The number of (free) online courses is growing there might just be something as an english MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) Accountable Talk® of might be over your head right now, but the start date for the course is still to be set, so there's time to prepare, It won't be up until 2013.
  • Sep 27 2012: Watch a lot of English languages movies and tv shows with subtitles in your own language.
