The pestilence of comparison everything

Hello everyone. I would like to ask you some question about trend of making content on websites. For last few years, if you ask Google, or perform any kind of search - you will have a tons of comparisons, millions of top tens, which is the most and which is the worst.
Do you think this is good and useful trend, or maybe you think that it is starting to be annoying and not very informative ?

    Sep 23 2012: If you look at it from that perspective what's to stop an external agency skewing search results to it's purposes? like that of professional information companies that load the system with crap data about someone but the search your after is lost in the noise,it can be had for a fee,their out there.
