What is genius?

If revelation is in context to experience, how is genius understood? Is it always viewed in retrospect, or in relation to accepted precepts, or is the power of genius found in the force of undeniable clarity of thought?

    Aug 24 2012: Genius is a way of envisioning the world in a way that no one had ever thought of before, but with such beauty and grace that people instinctively connect with that new vision.

        Aug 24 2012: Hm. Good point. Maybe I was letting my romanticism crowd out my rationalism. :-). Perhaps better to say that people eventually catch up to this understanding, the geniuses just figure it out first..
