Make textbooks fun and engaging

If we were stuck with textbooks forever, then we should make textbooks fun/engaging.

What about popup books, augmented reality pages like from http://www.layar.com, have really funny quotes/jokes/content, more visual media, etc.

Huge blocks of text aren't the only ways of teaching.

Aug 18 2012: Text books will never be fun and engaging ... however I have had instrucors that made the course exciting and fun. The current system has entrenched the existing method. It is imbeded with test designers , curriculum and syllabus developers thus making it a multi billion dollar industry.

Books simply are a means to pass on information they are neither fun or engaging

The problem is the system. We need to bring education into the 20th century.

    All the best. Bob.

      Aug 18 2012: LOL

You could argue that Youtube videos, artworks, websites, and infographics are also simply a means to pass on information as well. Or are they more than simply just blobs of information used for reference?

Books can be fun and engaging too, or else we wouldn't have Harry Potter books or Sherlock Holmes.

But you're right, the problem is the system itself and, perhaps, the lack of instructors that make the course more fun and exciting.
