Make textbooks fun and engaging

If we were stuck with textbooks forever, then we should make textbooks fun/engaging.

What about popup books, augmented reality pages like from http://www.layar.com, have really funny quotes/jokes/content, more visual media, etc.

Huge blocks of text aren't the only ways of teaching.

Aug 17 2012: I think this is a fantastic idea. Kids these days seem to be so focused away from education. I saddens me to see so many kids with potential at my school fall into the trap of society and end up failing classes.

Aug 17 2012: Lol, you wonder why there are a lot of people who are disinterested in school. There's a lot of turn-offs in school, where there shouldn't be.

Aug 18 2012: Yeah, I even sometimes get discouraged, but I guess it doesn't matter for me specifically anyways since I literally teach myself. Really all school does for me is ensure that I make to college and give me social skills. But, other than that, school has done very little for me. All the text books are outdated and in horrible condition as well. The school I go to waits a decade at a time before ordering new text books. I might as well just use my ipad as a text book. Although, I think it is also the students fault. If they are discouraged, they should at least take action to either pull through the day or educate themselves.

Aug 18 2012: You can say the relationship between student and school is full of disagreements. The only way to fix this relationship is for at least one side to change its act.

So if education becomes more engaging, students will be encouraged to do the same. Same can be said when students are more engaged, education is encouraged to do the same.
