The TED ideal of thought is the ideal of the “takeaway": the shrinkage of thought for people too busy to think

http://www.tnr.com/article/books-and-arts/magazine/105703/the-naked-and-the-ted-khanna

Following the above article main point, is it a fair criticism to TED
the claim that we, TED followers, are delusional trying to grasp serious
and complex problems with shallow short talks?

Should we re-balance our search for knowledge
from the "mile-wide, inch thick" approach to a search more
focused (fewer topics) and profound (more time)?

Aug 7 2012: We cannot make any assessment until we know who this guy is and what he stands for. Here is his TED talk:

    http://www.ted.com/talks/evgeny_morozov_is_the_internet_what_orwell_feared.html

He was also affiliated in 2009 when he did reviews of sessions at the conference.

It seems his major complaint is that TED is not properly POLITICAL. I just do not read a P in TED, do you?

Here his one of his main arguments:
Since any meaningful discussion of politics is off limits at TED, the solutions advocated by TED’s techno-humanitarians cannot go beyond the toolkit available to the scientist, the coder, and the engineer. This leaves Silicon Valley entrepreneurs positioned as TED’s preferred redeemers. In TED world, tech entrepreneurs are in the business of solving the world’s most pressing problems. This is what makes TED stand out from other globalist shindigs, and makes its intellectual performances increasingly irrelevant to genuine thought and serious action.

He seems like a bear with a thorn in his paw and could that thorn be the Arab Sping which utterly belies his own talk?

PS Those of us at TED conversations must not have gotten that nonpolitical memo because TED has never limited my own discussions and I have commented on American, British and Canadian politics.

Aug 8 2012: Totally agree with you Debra, I have made political comment too many times - especially anti-war and environmental issues! None have been censored to my knowledge. Appreciate your summary of this guys problems ... each to their own.
