Telepathy - A could be future technology

this is something which have been a striking discussions made. Can we map the brains. Does our thoughts make a unique signals in the neuro nerves. If we are able to map this signals to thoughts then telepathy could be possible. It is as good as finding a song from its wave. Since thoughts take up various variations, algorithms for capturing the brain signals and putting it as a wave and decoding it with a probability smart algorithms(just like used in recognizing a song from its wave). And a telepathy mechanism is implemented with this waves analysed and encoded in the messages and sent to the listeners similar device. Study of entire signal patterns for our thoughts needs to be done & the waveforms needs to be built in similar way. Just like a phone where our mouth speaks by creating a vibration. Here our brain will create the signals and those waves are sent across.

    I have come to know from my friend who happens to be a neurologist that our brain produces certain signals for each and every thoughts. This signals are essentially unique ones which conveys unique message to brain.
    Suppose i want to say some one '' I love you'. My brain creates an enoromous amount of signals prior to this. Our brain
    prepares the body for it. Suppose i want to yell at someone. Here again my brain generates unique wave patterns which are transmitted and this again prepares body for action.
    All i want is to detect these signals.
    200 people could be gathered. They could be asked to think about proposing someone . there brain could be monitored and signal's coul'd be gathered and made a generalzed pattern for I love you

      Aug 5 2012: I kind of think of our brain as like html/css code used for websites. Because our "language" supports movies, texts, math equations, words, sounds, pictures, etc. It would be very interesting, if we did have a society where we use telepathy. Like, what kind of language would we "speak" in? We might even be able to send emotions, thoughts, logic, dreams, etc. directly to other people's brains. If you think about it, that's what we try to do anyways with our traditional languages like books, poetry, movies, theatre, etc. They all try to send people messages, but not everyone receives these messages. In fact some people may "misinterpret" messages and find new meaning to those messages that may have not been originally intended when created.

        Now i would be only able to communicate through speech either if u know my language or me knowing yours.
        But we can definitly communicate with our emotions write.
        I can show that am worried and i need help with my emotions.
        I want telepathy of thoughts & emotions not merely restricted to a language.
        The CSS styling definitly holds perfect for imaginating it in code. It could attribute to detailing of each emotions.

          Aug 6 2012: Indeed, this is kind of like the ultimate form of 1-to-1 communication. All the communications/languages that we had up to now are like imperfect versions of telepathic communication. So you would be able to show me what you were talking about. We could even show a memory of our experiences, so another person would know exactly what just happened, and there wouldn't be any confusions.

        Our brain has no confusions!! It makes pattern absolutely correct!!!!
        The way we project it to others might create confusions.
        A mom understands her kids problem even without the kid explicitely telling her. There its happening a one to one clear communications..
        So actually we all are already doing some kind of telepathy, only thing is we are unable to give it a complete detailing

          Aug 7 2012: Well lol, the mom and the kid isn't telepathic communication. I think the Mom knows how the kid works and can also read body language as well as noticing the "peculiar" responses.

          The thing about Body Language is that even though you can lie, your body can tell a different story because a lot of them are involuntary actions.

          I guess you can say we are all doing imperfect telepathy, aka communication, but true telepathy imo is when we can literally communicate directly from mind-to-mind with no middleware.

    Aug 5 2012: I do believe we are doing something in our brains, some kind of information storage or data processing. It's interesting how we recognize images instantly while a computer can only recognize an image after so many similar images are registered in memory. And it's also interesting that we're all consistent on this, just as all computers atm read 0's and 1's. So there must be some common language that everyone's brain is using that help us conjure thoughts and dreams and whatnot.

  • Aug 18 2012: The idea of telepathy has been around for all life. Telepathy as you see in your tv, someone with "powers" that can read your thoughts word by word is not and will not be possible. But as i posted at the begining of the year here in TED, there can or may be a way to create a device that can read the elctrical signals that happen in a human brain from a distance. With the proper "signal" map you may be able to translate this signals to emotional states.

    Where time is crucial, e.g. in combat situations, bypassing the 'brain to hand' time-waste became a major interest in this field of mind/machinery/weapon interface.

    The major difficulty I imagine in your general concept is, that in any case this technology would be based on 'pattern recognition software', which was only as good as it was adjusted to each individual and was needed to evolve with it as well.

    Your 'I love you' example would produce different 'patterns' in our brains, depending on the context we are using this phrase, the person we are using it for and even for the same person it became a matter of time shared and experience gained by it.

    So if a single thought could be translated into 3D brain map coordinates, those if/then connections were most likely not allowed to remain constant over time, and would need a whole bunch of error correction algorithms which themselves were not allowed to remain constant either.

    Let's asume we would take our so called 'inner voice' and would just focus those brain scanning sensors on this 'dialogue'. I can hardly imagine that my responsive neural patterns today were the same than 30 years ago by thinking through one and the same word, scentence or even a whole context. But I am no specialist in this field and time will show me what may is possible on this...

      I totally agree that the kind of algorithm that we use stands to be the most powerfull error correction one.
      Just like there is a error correction in tele communications where we pass message over air which is vulnerable
      for many changes by external sources.
      The disturbance with our brain thoughts could be mapped to the noice which gets added up in our normal telecommunication.

      Suppose in telecommunication , I say "hi" .. My vibrations are mapped to a wave which travels in air.. Suppose air disturbs it to "hio". But the decoders use a smart error correction mechanisms to get the original message.
      In similar way the brain thoughts could be hampered by many other thoughts but the identity and presence of original thoughts remains.
      Definitly the brain has a unique signal for each thoughts and emotions. These electric signals controls the body for that action.

      Perfect example , You try to swallow (just swallow without having anything in your mouth) , now you swallow again. I am sure the 5th time you will find it difficult. Brain creates a signal which specifies a unique actions. The fifth time your thoughts are getting disturbed by the thought that something is difficult in swallowing so our body doesn't allow it though we were doing it perfectly before.

      I want mapping of these signals
