Why do people bully others?

i just want to here the opinions of people and why they think people bully other people

    Jul 29 2012: Because they dislike themselves, disrespect themselves, feel powerless, think it elevates them above those they bully, and are stupid, idiotic, destructive jerks.

      We can only project to the world what we have in our heart.
      I would only add that bullies may not be jerks....they may be hurting wounded people.

    Jul 29 2012: Bullies is another form of misunderstanding. Maybe the guy was bullied at home by his parents, and the child thought it was right. Or maybe he was angry, and just took it out on other kids. But either way, bullying is almost always a form of misunderstanding of others.

    Jul 29 2012: Did you ever investigate that phrase "pecking order"?
    I think bullies believe that by hurting or wounding another they will keep the peckers off themselves. It is a bad conclusion that comes around to wound them eventually because they helped to create a millieu in which such behaviour is accepted. it makes for brutal families, full jails and misconceptions everywhere.
    The saddest tactic that I have seen lately is when bullies adopt the logic of the bullied and claim to be bullied when someone stands up and terms their behaviour unacceptable. YIKES! Bullies tend to be good at misdirection and misappropriation.

      Jul 29 2012: I have and am grateful because it is a huge societal issue that need to be addressed before we lose more people who could really make a difference. It is my opinion that bullies will never save a society because they do not understand the issues or the nuance sufficiently. They have already scuttled some though.

    Jul 29 2012: People feel like they are superior when they bully others, they are showing their strength. and they are getting temporary enjoyment by teasing others, they are habituated to it

    Jul 29 2012: Our species has a deeply-instinctive (and erroneous) notion that exerting control over others lives means we must have greater control over our own. The point of many competitive sports is for one side to bully the other more than they get bullied in return. I also see it expressed in video games, where few enjoy the cooperative or building elements, but most everyone enjoys kicking someone's ass.

      Jul 29 2012: That kind of ignores why this instinct was built into us. Competitive sports have nothing to do with bullying, they have to do with displaying strategy and skill in an objectively demonstrable fashion. Until about 50 years ago, there was no better skill to have, than fight skill.

      If you were stronger, smarter, and more agile than the invading armies, you survived. "I don't have to be faster than the bear, I just have to be faster than you". No one enjoys kicking peoples asses, that is the fundamental misunderstanding between men and women... We enjoy demonstrating skill, because women respond to it sexually.

      When women sexually value math skill, over fight skill, society changes. When society is safe, fight skill becomes less important, and women will be less attracted to it. The whole point of competition, is to test your skill against another human beings skill, so as to improve it. It's not about hurting the other person, it's about getting better, at the skill.

      Chess, Football, Martial Arts, all designed to be physical expressions of war strategy, which were absolutely necessary for survival until a few nerds gave the government the atom bomb. Complex mathematical theories are displayed, and tested in objective reality, during any given sporting event.

      Competition is vital for the survival of the species. I should mention... Why do men typically bully other men? Because, bullies get laid : p

        Jul 29 2012: I think bullying is the loser's outlet. The one who didn't get the girl, who got his ass kicked fair and square in a competition, and who carries his anger and humiliation down the hierarchy.
        I've read about baboons raping females after losing face in a competition.
        In school you might be bullied by a kid who's being bullied by a step-father who's being bullied by a boss who's being bullied by his wife, who's unable to compete with a young secretary.

          Jul 29 2012: Actually there is quite a bit of truth to that... Again using Dog Whisperer for a reference, it's not the loud one that is in control, it is the quiet one. The loud one, is insecure.

          However, I would add, that bullies get attention, both female, and male, at an age when attention is one of the most important things you can give a child. From about 11-16, ultra aggressive beta behavior, is rewarded in males with attention, especially from the opposite sex.

          Just so you know though... I wasn't suggesting that this is pack dominance behavior... There are very few alphas actually fighting for dominance and demonstrating skill... There are lots of haters, barkers, and biters out there : )

          Actual pack leaders, are rarely insecure around the opposite sex, or bullying anyone.

    Such activity happens when our natural instinct take over our consciousness. Nature is pretty will and in constant conflict. It's only natural that at times we give in to natural urges.

    Jul 28 2012: Human beings are pack animals, it's a perfectly natural behavior. Just watch the Dog Whisperer, and you'll understand... It's not beneficial in modern society, but it really shouldn't be surprising.
