What if Brands didn’t exist?

For me, it basically means ‘what if choice didn’t exist?'

    Jul 25 2012: If choice didn't exist, we wouldn't miss it. However, there will always be a choice - look at nature. "Brands" are just one way of telling one type of thing from a similar one. We're the ones that put importance on the brand based on aesthetic appeal, fit, taste, emotion. We don't pick a brand of roses, rather a color. Branding is a corporation's way of getting more of our money.

    Jul 24 2012: Then everything at the grocery store would be white with black letters :) I have to admit, I actually kind of appreciate having a variety of brands. It adds a little bit more detail to the world.

    Jul 24 2012: there wouldnt be 'spending so much money on the name of brand' first of all, and i would have definately been forced to use my brain to choose "the good quality" rather bilieving the brand blindly..

    Jul 22 2012: Let's all pray to the God of Brands and ask them send us more "high"/"very high" quality of products :) ... Any virgins to be sacrificed? ...or you think is enough to post on billboard the product only?

    Jul 21 2012: Chaos would ensue. Imagine the challenge of finding quality products and services or reputable vendors. It's a provocative question.     If brands were not there we would choose our products based on more necessary traits such as quality or place of origination. In similar way price will also be more affordable as there will be less spending in branding.

    Jul 20 2012: Why would choice not exist? When I am in the produce section of the grocery store, I decide on whether I want white peaches or orange and among the kinds of apples. I don't think in terms of these having brands.

      Jul 19 2012: Indeed! Well, possibly the choice of abstaining...say, if the only smartphone available was an iPhone, we could simply refuse to be equipped with one. We'd still retain the right of denial, even in the case of life-sustaining commodities like air, water or food. It would kill us, but we could refuse, probably to make some statement or other, for example: "[Bobby] Sands died on 5 May 1981 in the prison hospital after 66 days of hunger-striking, aged 27."
