What is the most effective ways/means to raise funds for my foundation?

I have just started a Foundation to assist high school students from financially stricken families to fund them for University/College further studies.

How do I raise awareness and attract the much needed donations to get this off the ground?

I am going to fund this from my own savings and clearly this would not be enough once the programme is up and running.
