Lets contribute to create an error-free model of school.

90% of the people i meet blame their failure to education system. While other 10% thank teachers, peer who played an important role in success. This means education system and learning environment really plays a crucial part in determining success and failure. Now clearly above 10% were lucky as they found good source of inspiration. But everybody aint so lucky.

Tedster are most intelligent people on the planet earth with a motto "Making world a better place to live". Lets model a system of education which is reachable, affordable and effective. A system that helps foster creativity. Such a far reaching system is simply not possible if we dont have a common medium through which the best academic provide teach billions of people across the globe. Let not the good education to be limited to posh high school or universities like MIT, Harvard, IIT......Education is a basic right that should be available to everybody.

Just think about it a place on internet where you could login just like Facebook, not to play fish games but educate ourself. Learn what we love. Learn from best people on the subject. Talk and collaborate with people who are genuinely interested on topic they are learning. Build interesting projects using internet tools like Google Sketch up! Clear our doubts, One on one with local faculty member.

Discuss the possibility of this idea, contribute your valuable advice and above all fill this questionnaire

Mar 16 2011: Collaborations is the key, the more people with the same mind set that you can get behind the idea, the greater the voice... There is an endless amount of educators who have the same dream it is just a matter of bringing these people altogether behind your vision to collaborate and disseminate the ideas. Creativity and collaboration are the biggest underpinning ideas that your vision will promote so keep up the good work. Two websites that you may find interesting (if you haven't already seen them) are edutopia.org, which is run by the George Lucas foundation and fluency21.com which is run by Ian Jukes. Both based on forward thinking models of education that go hand in hand with Dr Kens talks and others like it. I hope this has been of some help.

Mar 17 2011: I believe that ICT tools are most effective tool.

Thanks a lot for the above two website, they were incredibly useful!

Mar 16 2011: Tanay, I believe you described TED in you last paragraph. That said, I do believe the way forward is education which is available and appropriate to all. What is in fact the point of making a young person spend twelve years in school learning things they will never use (not all I know) I truly believe it is your generation that has the opportunity to create this learning platform.

Mar 17 2011: Yes exactly, but the only difference will be that it would be better than TED in many ways(I am not being cocky but its quite natural that one has to do better than what older generation did). It would contain a plethora of information in video, text, animation and above all tools to foster creativity so that users could not only learn but apply what they learnt(Hands on learning).

I guarantee you that such type of school would revolutionize education, the way we learn.
But as moon isn't perfect, my models has some flaw which i could not see but you can.
Please let me know if any.
I want it to be perfect so that future generation will get what they deserve!

    A) Figuring out the best possible model.
    B) Digitilizing this model into computer language
    C) Create a virtual envirnoment using google sketch up!
    D) Requesting university's for their valuable contribution

Mar 16 2011: This is a very good idea. Have you thought about the specifics or just the general idea? I would really like to be a part of this. Look at my profile here on TED, and tell me can I be of any use.

      Mar 16 2011: Hii Vanja,
Thanks for appreciating this concept, i have gone through the details of this idea and i know exactly how make it a reality. But as you could imagine, this is a mighty idea(replacing old university with virtual avatar based, super awesome teacher powered virtual university) and it requires some real hard work.

Now please let me know in which phase you might be able to contribute to this idea.
Do you have any tips??I would be the most eager person on earth to listen!

The problem with a purely technological approach is that students can cheat that system. Also there is a lot of money in universities, and part of what you pay for is the credibility of the institution, for instance Harvard costs 30,000$ a semester because your nearly guaranteed a high paying job after you graduate. On the other hand you can learn the same thing on MIT opencourseware for free. Lastly there are some things that you can teach virtually such as how to interact with you peers.
