Is it right to judge a child/person on grade skills?

In India we have grading system as all other countries does. But my point is I'm a student in XI grade and i didn't score well in X grade. Now i wanna take science in XI grade and my school are suggesting me to take commerce and not allowing me to take science.

Sometimes students cannot understand a teacher's style or outside circumstances make it difficult to really focus on a class(a death in the family would be a good example). These reasons do not have anything to do with a person's ability to actually understand a subject. If that is the case, I would suggest talking to your parents asking them to talk to your school. I'm sure they would allow you to take science then.

That being said, these systems are in place to help everyone find something that they are good at. If you are very motivated, I'm sure that you could do wonderfully in science. I do know lots of people that math and science are not really their strength. If the school is recommending that you switch fields of study, it is because they are doing what they feel might be best for you. I don't think that they should refuse you the opportunity to take science though.

Jul 4 2012: I got admission in science i was having the cutoff percentage.:)
But there are children who scores almost 100% in there favorite subject but score par marks in other subject. I had the same story I got really amazing grade in maths and science and in social science I got par grade. and the school was judging on the overall performance. I don't think it is right every child got unique abilities. So there should be some sort of change in Indian Education system.

Jul 6 2012: Is this based on grades or pre-requisites? Remember you have to ask the right questions to get the right answer.

    All the best. Bob.
