Who is Ted?

I don't know who Ted is. I would really appreciate it if I get an summary that is understandable for kids 6-12 years.

Jun 29 2012: TED is a guy who created conferences and a website so that smart people and people who would like to believe they are smart can get together and talk about how smart they are and how they would solve the world's problems if they didnt live their lives looking at a computer screen and not really actually doing anything:)
