What was a great piece of advice you received and who provided it to you?

This is a question which I have asked during an interview when looking for staff. Its a great "thinking" question and offers up an interesting perspective from the interviewee. We all have gained considerable knowledge, experiences and confidence from those around us. What is yours?

Jun 26 2012: The Milgram experiments were profound and I learned about them from a Psych prof. You can learn about them from Phil Zimbardo here on TED.
  • Jun 15 2012: ''reach for the sky'' Woody from toy story
  • Jun 14 2012: A math professor at Ohio State University (sorry I forgot his name) preached at us again and again:

    Think deeply of simple things.

If you are thinking of anything important, think deeply.
  • Jun 14 2012: A long time ago my co-worker said that parents should spend time with their kids while they can. Once kids get older (around 13 yrs) then will start to prefer be with their friends. Their willingless to play with parents will never come back again.

I also remember that Steve Jobs said think as if you die tomorrow. Basically don't get obsessed with details, what other people think and focus on what matters the most.

    Cheers

Jun 27 2012: George Bernard Shaw said something on the topic as well. It was something like" Advice is like kissing. It feels good while you do it but it means just about as much.

Jun 13 2012: Jesus Christ says in Luke 11:34 "If your eyes are good your whole body will be full of light."

this tells me of the importance of the eyes for sight; and the importance of light in a dark place or mind; and it tells of the importance of vision for businesses, nations and individuals.

For me, it is that great advice.

Jun 27 2012: He also said something like: If your eyes are full of light your whole body wil be as well." "And all evil eminates from your own heart". This is why I have so much trouble with religions who blame women for the lusts of men.
