Jun 12 2012: Yes .............. 'to know God' , that's a great thing ; but if a person don't knows God , why would that person want to know Him ? I put this question because you said that our purpose is :'to know God' as if we don't know Him at all (I don't wanna say we do , I wanna just to justify my question ) .

Jun 12 2012: If your life ends without you having come to know God, then the very purpose for your living remains forever unfulfilled, even after you are dead and gone. Knowing this, I don't think the question is why anyone would want to know God, but why would any person not want to know God? Thank you for your most meaningful question EG.

  • Jun 17 2012: Why we are living?

Stardust, mind boggling odds and are within our life cycle to be sure, but what do we know for sure why we are living other than we consist as a bilogocal entity brought about by a continuous step wise gifting of our ultimate living genetic make up from past generations and therefore are connection with others, many others - so that in a very real sense we have been in transfer from all these various souces from the beginning.

Is there purpose as to why we are living? Religion is too elaborate and dogmatic and too mystical for my taste and curiosity demands.

Reality certainly has its mysteries, but I prefer to see life as a gift and seek to partiscipate first hand in the comedy and drama of the real world for what I find meaningful about my existence.

Jun 16 2012: Why are we living has a trivial meaning as well as a deeper one if you are looking for some sort of purpose to life. The trivial may be because the universe exists and we are living because we exist in this universe, the product of billions of years of evolution, because our ancestors survived to reproduce and finally our parents gave birth to us and we have not died yet. Why all this happened is probably meaningless or speculative if you are looking for an absolute universal truth. Although some will claim they know the absolute truth.

I would suggest there is no absolute purpose to human or any form of life in the sense you might be looking for. Some life is not even conscious of its existence but it has evolved to be adapted to pass on its genes.

Other animals are driven by instinct largely. We appear to have a greater intellect and reasoning capability. We probably have the most complex and developed consciousness known in the universe. There may be aliens pondering the same question somewhere.

So while there is probably no absolute purpose we have the ability to give life some subjective meaning and purpose. That might be to know or follow some imagined deity. Or it may simply be to lead a good life, however you define that.

If we were created by something, this is also arbitrary and does not really provide meaning. Why is this gods plan for us the way it is. No one really knows. Also why does this creating deity exist or live? Is it part of some plan imposed by whatever created it or did it evolve. In the end there is no answer. Resorting to Gods just pushes the question back a step.

I suggest the purpose is up to the individual to define.

  • Jun 12 2012: Hi Yash

There are two important days in life.

First day is when you were born.

Second day is when you find out why you were born.

Unfortunately many of us are going through life to find the second day, and some cases it never arrives,
but eventually it will arrive if you find out what you exactly want out of life.

Do what you love and everyday will be important and you will find the second day
  • Jun 12 2012: I do not think there is one purpose for all humans. I believe that each of us has to find our own purpose, and that purpose can change from year to year and day to day.

Jun 11 2012: I feel the same way about misquitos. I sometime want to back to Noha and the Arc and slap the two misaquitos. We are the keeper of the thumb. We must multiply to perserve the thumb that seperate us from the other animals. TED is a great example I read some conversations and ask why would anyone respond in that manner. His right to reproduce should be cancelled. Then I read another comment and feel that there is hope for the human race. Then I come to the reality of who am I to judge.

Some believe that we are placed here for a purpose either divine or alien. This question will receive many answers from sublime to ridiculous. Some you will accept and some you will reject.

To place you in the box how would you answer this question?
    • Jul 6 2012: I don't understand the purpose/importance of the thumb.

Apes and monkeys also have thumbs. Look where it got them

Jun 11 2012: Well , I think what distinguishes human beings from other species is purely intellect. Today we are living in an era that is witnessing massive technology breakthroughs , ideas shared on an open source platforms, inspiring stories and blogs .So we are born to help others if possible other species too .
    Hope that helps.

Jun 11 2012: Does there have to be a purpose? All that we do effects humans and nothing else, sure we move stones and build massive temples to science and religion but what does this do for anything that is not human? Is our purpose a purpose or is it something else.
