Does life really get better?

I hear it everyday "Life gets better!" But does life really get better? What is your view on it?

    Jun 12 2012: I don't think it gets better. But I say that not in a sad depressing kind of way. We fulfill our desires for something and we immediately crave something else. The problem is that everything we can measure like security, wealth or intelligence doesn't really correlate with the term "better" and doesn't make us happier. People don't get happier over time, life doesn't get simpler, it just becomes different.
