If we can "fashion ourselves," then why can't we become whoever we want to be? Baggini seems to contradict himself with the X Factor" point.

If we can direct ourselves to any new place in a direction, then why couldn't Baggini decide to be a great musician? He declares that he wouldn't be able to because he doesn't have that "natural ability."

But where then does this "natural ability" come from, if not from his own will?

  • Jun 13 2012: Well, I suppose by "natural ability" he meant a natural talent for something that You're born with. Some are born with ear for music, and some are musically challenged. You're born with potential, some with bigger and some with smaller, but it's up to You whether You use that potential or not.

    Jun 3 2012: Maybe because we need an extra dose of courage? A lack of self esteem's? Do we are afraid about certain changes? To be who one really wants to be is a wonderful experience, but it means to break some things and don't look behind for a long while. This is my opinion.
