The more I focus on solving my problems, the more pain I feel. Frameworks I try to follow introduce disappointment and patterns of collapse.

The functionality of feeling, the vocabulary of emotion, is my primary experience and whilst I have followed good examples and failed to achieve enlightenment the realization of some or other principle has occurred. By reviewing my mistakes further personal development is at first possible but then too is discovery by degrees. Be kind to your brain it has millions of years of survival encoded as a brain. The human heart is like food. Feed your brain and it is encouraged to perform as it recognizes it is also cared for. Different language, same functionality. Like children, a brain needs to be aware that it is loved.

I have been through a lot of illness and struggles as a result of that in my life. My advice is to find your passion and focus on that and your connection to it. Mine is my horse, I have always got better for him, it's not something I have to concentrate on it is just a natural desire and I truely believe that it stabilises my mind and allows be to make more plans for the future...

    Good luck

May 21 2012: hello Alexandra. I have helped a lot of people who share your pain. the basic approach is to re-focus your attention away from EXTERNAL PROBLEMS and toward INTERNAL OPPORTUNITIES. this is the trick to seeing more clearly where you are learning to live life thru your actual experiences rather than merely surviving each day's endless toil. finding internal opportunities is the key to all enlightenment and realization. getting thru your programmed personal defenses and becoming familiar with your internal dialogue leads to awareness at deeper levels. it's all waiting inside you right now.

once you consciously re-focus your attention toward discovering your internal opportunities, you will perceive your so-called "problem" in a new way. you will shift you personal lens of perspective in a way that's is beneficial instead of detrimental. I have written significantly on this. find me on Facebook so I can share some stuff with you. whenever youre ready, it's waiting for you. no worries. cool

May 20 2012: Alexandra, those of us who read what you are writing cannot know how urgent the pain is or how old you are. My strong advice to you is to talk with your doctor or someone you trust who can help you find a constructive path. Someone you can talk to in person will almost surely be able to get down into the issue better for you than any online discussion board of people who do not know you at all.

May 19 2012: Is there not only the brain, but the rest of the body? Is it not entirely possible that there is intelligence in sensitivity, experience, and emotion? The brain is known to have 2 hemispheres that 'control' different aspects of our being, but is that all there is? The Orient believes that emotional along with experiential pain gets stored in the tissues of the body, so it can never leave us and can resurface as alternate maladies. We concentrate on our 'rational' evaluations while, it is believed, a communication is needed with ourselves that does not respond to discussion and evaluation. In this way, we're looking for consideration and care and rest for the alternative self. The one not recognized by the rational one. The brain is an important organ, encased in thick bone. But so is our marrow. Let us also appreciate that we are fully human, and that there may be more to us than can be rationally explained. Let's also be a little more easy on ourselves. We're people too.

May 19 2012: The first thing I recommend is that you make a list of what you precieve to be your problems. Step two: Go through the list one item at a time. Why is this a problem? If solved what have I gained? If not solved what have I lost? What is it about this item that causes me pain? Either it stays on the list or eliminate the item.

I am not qualified to give professional advice, however, if these are real problems that can disrupt your life or cause concern in others, seek professional assistance. If that is not an option I suggest that you speak to close friend about your concerns. Sometimes when said outloud the problem is not so big. Or at least narrows the focus.

You could, if you choose, make your issues known to the TED community and consider the responses as good or bad input to your needs.

England has public medicine available you could also go that route.

Is your primary experience the problems you seek resolution to? Is enlightenment your goal?

The last question is "Why did you come to TED with this issue"? What do you expect from TED members?
  • May 18 2012: Obviously, it is time to try a different approach. What about experimenting with focus on solving the problems of other people? That might cause the results you desire in your own feelings and your problems might just go "poof." Anything positive is possible. Another approach might be to focus on positive facts in your proximate environment. You have a choice about what to focus on.
