How are educators / education bodies in developing countries using the power of mobile phone learning?

I have heard this somewhere once - but never saw it in action. Are there any learning programmes or education initiatives developed through mobile phones (voice and SMS) on a wider scale?
Any examples or pointers would be much appreciated.

May 18 2012: Well its banned in my college for obvious reasons ..as a workaround I am planning to suggest my college we can make education material available on their website and accessible over the cell phone/smart phones .
Since in that way the material is also accessible and the teachers are not distracted by students using cell phones.

    May 16 2012: It's called m-learning in New Zealand (mobile-learning). It's in it's infancy.

Technology has very little to do with robust learning. It's very trendy.

It can provide benefits that print-technology can't provide but it also comes with many problems that do not present themselves with print-technology. The biggest is initial and ongoing expense.
