Is there a study of the science of sound? If so, then what can they be applied to?

I was wondering what are the different sciences of sound and their applications?

May 16 2012: There is limited study of sound under Acoustics. Some armies must have weapons based on producing high decibel sounds that could cause huge damage to living & non-living things.

  May 19 2012: Very interesting. I guess sound is difficult to measure or record, so that is what is limiting the advancement of sound?
