How to create a trusted, productive, enthusiastic and positive work environment ?

Hello fellow TED community,

I have just graduated in the field of mechanical engineering. I am about to go and work in Vietnam to develop a new production factory.

I would be very pleased if you could share with me your working experience to learn how to create a productive and enthusiastic work environment with my colleagues in order to be innovative.

    May 11 2012: if you care about them and their families, they'll care about you and your company. Expect excellence. Pay well - it will return itself in loyalty and productivity, and you will never want for dedicated staff. Allow them, and yourself, to live. May this new endeavor be prosperous and joyful for you and your new colleagues!

    May 10 2012: Working at your new environment, new country, practically:

    - Do not use too much ego to support the arrogance, but to provides a friendly firmness
    - Treat other people (not entirely similar) as we want for ourselves
    - Get to know the local culture and choose what we can do without sacrificing our own principles
    - Respect to other religious life, different ethnic and race
    - Try to be sensitive to the problems of others, financially or not. And try to contribute even for the slightest to help others, or encourage others even for just simple expression using words.
    - If there is disagreement, we try to explain that we have different tastes, it's not about who is the smart one.

    And many others. Hopefully this simply can direct us closer to fairness.

    People are not stupid just to know that we do sincerely or not, or we're showing arrogance or not. As i believe, "our fallacies centered on different level of arrogance".

    Maybe we can deceive others, with the appearance of a calm, gentle and confident. But people can so easily see our sincerity, because sincerity is more touching than the attitude of calm, gentle and confident.

  • May 26 2012: Maybe you can make great and colored environment ( yellow or blue or purple), (ex : wall ) something that is happy. Watch out for good meals before and after works and pay attention to the needs of colleagues.

  • May 23 2012: Hire people whose passions mesh perfectly with the available jobs and opportunities for advancement; the right person for the right job. It's rarely possible to completely achieve that, but the closer you get, the better the results.

    May 21 2012: Become a GREAT Listener! I always listen with my head nodding yes. It seems to help me listen not only to the words, but it helps me understand the essence of what the speaker is saying. There is nothing more satisfying than someone who is totally focused on your thoughts and what your are saying, rather than sitting before you cocked and loaded ready to shoot their superior ideas back at you.

    One other thing I have found very effective...Thank You. and then... Your Welcome. I must say, after 25 years as an entrepreneur, I have found that its always the fundamentals that work the best. We all know them, but for some reason we don't think they are applicable in the business world. They are! Expecting the best from people usually brings out the best in them. If a teammate is irritable and maybe using terse words with you and others, instead of firing back, I will look for an appropriate time to ask if everything is ok. You never know what may be going on in someones life. 90% of the time they are going through some type of personal difficulty. A listening ear goes along way and builds amazing team cohesion.

    May 15 2012: Its all about the people.It is love that creates an atmosphere of passionate dedication and mutual respect.Beginning with the leader(the head),this divine attribute can flow to the entire team.
    Team,yes, because it is love that appreciate the strength of individuals in uniting to build something worthwhile.

    May 10 2012: Just the fact that you are concerned is a sign that you will do well but here are two tips which have made a huge difference in my career.

    -Treat each employee as an individual, don't try to change someone. Recognizes strengths and maximize them.

    -Make your employees proud to work for you. This seems difficult but the most effective line I have ever heard from a manager was "If you do your job I will be behind you 100% no matter what."
