What can I trade against your data?

Dear Tedsters,

What can companies give consumers in trade for their data?

Would love to hear your ideas.
Best regards

May 10 2012: By contributing data, I increase their efficiency of coming to market. I would like to be acknowledged by individual companies who use my data for their increased efficiencies in some manner. Possibly a 'credits' system across the various brands of the company - similar to 'carbon credits' used in international envirnomental concerns, or a 'value proposition' of some sort specific to my contribution, or incentivized stock aquisitions (you buy 5000 shares, you get 5,001), or a company specific credit card with points accumulated towards purchases, etc. If my efforts generate benefit for a company, I am a defacto resource and deserve commensurate consideration. Let's talk about brand loyalty now...

May 9 2012: Many places I shop give me a discount if I let them track my purchasing data. I think they use the data to optimize their sales and ultimately their profits. They promise not to share my data.

May 9 2012: Hamburgers. (sorry, I had to)

Personally, I don't mind. I am no criminal and most data they get from me will be for their economical gains. Or so to say that they can offer me the best services. I don't care if a big cooperation knows where I live, why should I? Doesn't the government already know? I'm quite sure I don't have any mortal enemies that are hunting for me. So where is the problem, I find this hard to understand. Freedom is just a made up term, as there is no such thing. Let see how free you are if you start a journey from India to the United States. Let's see how far you get without money.

Why not accept this? I do not wish to sound cynical, but there is no such thing as pure freedom. If there was the world itself would be in total chaos (no it isn't now, we are in the most peaceful time in human history).

If you want true freedom then give people a way to express themselves. Let them do what they like and what they are good at. Let humanity do what it has always been good at: progress and creation.
