solar-powered cellular phones...

The idea is complete mobility.

Cellular phones have literally changed the way we live in these hurried times. Mobile phones have come a long way from big bulky handsets to slim card-sized units. So is the battery. In the early 90's, I have to charge a mobile phone for more than 12 hours so it can be used for less than 12 hours. Now, batteries last for more than 2 days. This is convenient enough but not totally. Charging on the go seems to be the direction. I have seen mobile chargers which are actually batteries that were previously charged through wall sockets. Why not make the phone itself solar rechargeable? Wouldn't that be complete mobility?

  • May 5 2012: Sir your Idea is great .....but how u will give power to the mobile thru the Sunlight(Solar Energy) .....????

    have any Idea....????

May 5 2012: Just like the hybrid cars where gas and electricity can be interchangeably used, the solar-powered cellular phones will have a battery pack and small solar panels perhaps similar to that of calculators but more powerful. The dynamics between these two power sources will be the subject of analysis and design. The phone would primarily run on solar power collected by the solar panels from sunlight or ordinary light sources. It would either be that the solar power charges the battery pack as back-up whenever the solar power is drained or totally do away with the battery pack if the solar panel is powerful enough to even utilize ordinary light sources. So much can be done, I think...
      • May 5 2012: actually solar pannel has 17-20% efficiency then it will cost a lot......

May 6 2012: I'm sure your efficiency rate is measured against a certain device which may not be applicable to small gadgets such as a cellular phone. If however, the rate was applicable, that would be one of the design challenges.
      • May 6 2012: Carry on Mr Rhome ............
