Underwater civilizations

As humans have been exposed to water for thousands of years, it is highly probable that the Earth's surface is not the only part of it inhabited by human-like intelligent creatures. Throughout the centuries, people could have developed specific features that could have allowed them to adapt to and live in water environment. If so, it is very likely that somewhere deep in the unexplored parts of the oceans civilizations similar, or completely different to ours can be found.

Apr 15 2012: It is as much possible as aliens living in space, but people do look for life out there (spending billions of dollars on it).
