Provide the tools and knowledge for TEDx communities to promote and implement open government and open data initiatives.
Local, regional and state government data is often warehoused within specific departments and units. This tax payer funded resource is often coveted by departments and agencies for power brokering at budget times. Often the data is in proprietary formats preventing open access. The data needs to be liberated and converted to a standard form accessible by all citizens and policy makers. Using the tools that Hans Rosling has developed and now freely available as a Google spreadsheet gadget would help present data in understandable ways. See http://gapminder.org for more details.

What would it take to identify one village, one small city government to begin an initiative? What is your background?
Thank you for contributing.

"What would it take to identify one village, one small city government to begin an initiative?"
Is it possible to identify yourself as the beginning an initiative? Once you have shown to govern yourself with total transparency would not your neighbor see and react from your model becoming more transparent and self governing too?
Oversimplifyingly, :-)

I'm from Santa Cruz, California. Where are you from? What is your experience with local government? Any ideas on how we can work together on prototype Open Government initiatives?
Thanks for your kind words!

Here's some links that I've gathered up to now concerning & relating the topic.
I would love to get involved in projects that support and elaborate on this idea

Have you attempted to put any data into Hans Rosling's software (now a Google Gadget) that can be added to a Google Spreadsheet in Google Apps?
What valuable articles or open source resources have you discovered?
I've been exploring your list of links...Thank you!

concerning articles: Don't have that knowledge at my fingertips... so not going to do the effort ;-)
