Olympics for the Mind, Body, and Soul

The mind, body, and soul seem to be the three main aspects of a human being.
-The Mind pertaining to education, logical, smarts, mental skill, mental effort, etc.
-The Body pertaining to sports, health, fitness, physical skill, physical effort, etc.
-The Soul pertaining to creativity, abstract, art, music, spiritual effort, etc.

Already in place is the Olympics for the Body. This grand worldwide cultural event serves as a physical competition. It is a time were the world comes together to marvel and awe over the pinnacle of human physique.

I propose that competitions, with all the grandeur of the Olympics, be set up to have the world come together for two more distinct Olympics. One for mental competition(Mind) and another for creative competition(Soul). Both will have a slew of categories to compete in that will be just as diverse as the Body Olympics.

One may imagine the cultural explosion that would ensue. Athletes will still continue striving for being the best in the physical competitions, while students may now be able to have goals of not only having a good education for a good career, but also have goals of competing in mental competitions. The same thing goes for creative competitors. All of this, combined with a collaborative effort needed to set up these competitions, will produce a very powerful and world changing experience.

How the annual scheduling might be laid out.
2012-Summer Olympics(Body)
2013- Mind Olympics
2014-Winter Olympics(Body)
2015- Soul Olympics
2016-Summer Olympics(Body)
2017- Mind Olympics

"In no way can we get such an overwhelming idea of the grandeur of Nature than when we consider, that in accordance with the law of the conservation of energy, throughout the Infinite, the forces are in a perfect balance, and hence the energy of a single thought may determine the motion of a universe." - Nikola Tesla

Mar 26 2012: Hi Sterling, I find this idea very interesting. I do feel that the body, mind and spirit are interlinked and to seperate them feels a little unnatural. The cultural Olympiad (as conceived of by De Coubertin) has since it's creation attempted to use sport (the body) as a springboard for the arts (mind and spirit). This year as the eyes of the world fall on London the creators of the London 2012 Games are determnined to make sure our minds and spirits are very much at the heart of the games alongside displays of physical excellence. To be a sportsperson requires harnessing our potential in all the aspects you mention and whilst I would love to know how the 'Soul Games' would look, I do feel that the METHOD of showing our soulful selves might look similar (at least in part) to what we currently know as either the sporting or cultural Olympics. Remembering that the Games are more than just the events on the day, the sense of collaboration, teamwork and life-affirming opportunities which surround the massive undertaking are rich with expereinces linked to mind, body and soul. Through our in-school curriculum we are finding as many ways as possible to make the most of this year in ways which are way beyond the notion of sport............... The 'Mind Olympics' I guess is currently called school or college...if we get it right! :-)

Mar 23 2012: I wonder what kind of competitions would be involved in the Mind and Soul Olympics.

-For the Soul- There could be competitions in art, music, film, creative writing, etc.
-For the Mind- There could be competitions in math, science, random facts, etc.
