The lack of a chatroom style interface is, what I think, makes TED less of a superficial network.

When there is a chat interface with instant messaging, many individuals don't think before they elaborate, but with this interface where you can edit and things aren't "instant messaging", then I think it creates more thoughtful and insightful answers/discussions. It also helps that most individuals in this blogoshpere seem educated or knowledgeable about many topics, and if not refer to speakers/talks from A-Z. ;)

The simpler the better. That is what keeps our minds sane.

Thanks for reading and responding to my post.

Ciao! =D

Mar 18 2012: Yes i believe you're right,at first i wanted it to be exactly like the chatroom system but then i realized i can sit back and as you said think about it,even if what i posted was wrong or based out of ignorance(i actually leave those comments up instead of deleting them as it helps) and a chatroom system is primarily flammable and quite possibly prone to demogoue's

Mar 18 2012: I like expanding my vocabulary, but I couldn't find what flameable means. I don't want to assume, so did you mean flammable?

Mar 18 2012: Thanks, very true of the above. I am delighted for that fact of the lack of instant messaging and the parameters of making "friends" or "connections" because that kind of happens naturally through dialogue and relating issues to each other. =)
  • Mar 18 2012: I think the content of the site is what makes the site less superficial. I can't imagine any dumb 12 year old reading all the topics here, or at least interested in any video, and making senseless comments.

Mar 18 2012: I'm pretty sure that most younger people may be won't be on here, but I don't want to discriminate by age. I am sure there are young people who would understand some stuff or be on the site, but I don't have the resources to really know that answer. hehe.

Other than that, I definitely agree that not many individuals make senseless comments.
